If you want kids to stay in school, make sure school provides the necessary accommodations for disabled people, make sure no one is bullied at school, and make sure no one has to quit school to work because they’re poor.

So I am a High School Drop Out.
It was not because I hated school, or wasn’t motivated, or didn’t get good grades. My grades were awesome……when I was actually there.
You see, since 7th grade, I have struggled with Acute Anxiety Disorder. Going to school was such an incredibly difficult thing for me, because simply trying to go outside my own front door was terrifying for me.
So I spent a lot of time bouncing in and out of the Juvenile Court System, because Truancy is Truancy regardless of circumstances. I was missing school, and therefore was a criminal that needed to be thrown into Juvenile Detention and kept on Probation for most of my teenage years.
I literally stopped going to school after the Thanksgiving break of my Freshmen year, and didn’t go back until after Spring Break. My classmates simply assumed I had like….Mono or some other serious illness, because I was just suddenly not there for almost five months.
In my Senior Year, I had finally gotten off Probation. I was doing better, but then my Anxiety flared up again. The Judge had already stated if I was Truant again, she would order me taken away from my mother and tossed into a Detention Center until I aged out, then I would still be on Probation until I was 21.
The school was required to report me as Truant, if I was late too often or missed a total of FIVE DAYS in the entire school year.
I was terrified, and so I reluctantly Dropped Out when I was so close to graduating EARLY in spite of all the challenges I’d faced. I literally had to quit school to avoid going to JAIL.
So Instead, I got my GED and then spent almost a decade focusing on trying to get myself back together.
I was a kick-ass student. I was on the road to graduating with flying colors, IN SPITE of missing half a year of school my Freshman year.
But I never got to graduate. I had to give that up to save myself. And it’s something that I will ALWAYS resent.
The amount of lesbians who know that they’re lesbians from a young age versus the amount of gay men who know that they’re gay from a young age shows a staggering difference in that most lesbians take way longer to realize that they’re gay.
Girls are told that dating men is supposed to be hard and essentially unfulfilling. That it’s normal to expend emotional and sexual labor without receiving anything or feeling anything in return. Girls are told that their attraction to men and relationships with men should be difficult and sometimes feel forced because men are so emotionally lacking or otherwise “hypermasculine”.
Realizing that you don’t like men because you’re gay versus just feeling emotionally exhausted or unable/unsure of how to “please” men is part of the reason why compulsory heterosexuality is so damaging. It forces many girls to continue to date men and to keep trying to feel attraction to them long after they’ve realized that there’s nothing there—particularly blaming themselves for the reasons why relationships with men don’t work out instead of thinking it’s an indicator of being gay, which most (though of course not all) gay men are able to recognize as an initial indicator.
Yasuke African Samurai of the Japanese Warlord Nobunaga Oda.
“Japan is not a place one would usually associate with immigrants from Africa or the Caribbean. Yet in the late 16th century Japan’s most powerful warlord, Oda Nobunaga, had a African page named Yasuke it is belived that Yasuke was either a Makua originally from Mozambique or from somewhere in the Congo region. Yasuke was not only a cultural curiosity but also served as Nobunaga’s bodyguard and was granted the prestigious rank of Samurai.
Yasuke arrived in Japan in 1579 as the servant of the Italian Jesuit Alessandro Valignano, who had been appointed the Visitor (inspector) of the Jesuit missions in the Indies, i.e. S. and E. Asia, an extremely high position, so Yasuke must have been quite trustworthy. He accompanied Valignano when the latter came to the capital area in March 1581 and caused something of a sensation. In one event, several people were crushed to death while clamouring to get a look at him. Nobunaga heard about him and expressed a desire to see him. Suspecting the black color of his skin to be paint, Nobunaga had him strip from the waist up and made him scrub his skin.
We do not know this Yasuke’s original Makua name but the Japanese called him Yasuke (彌介), the reason for this name is unknown as it does not have a clear meaning and that it is most likely a “Japanization” of his actual name.
He was apparently 6ft 2in and would have towered over the Japanese of the day. Nobunaga first heard of Yasuke when the news reached him in 1581 of the great crush that had occurred when Valignano had brought him to Kyoto where his skin colour and height attracted a huge crowd. Nobunaga ordered the Jesuit to bring Yasuke to his court so that he could see this sensation in the flesh.
Upon seeing Yasuke, Nobunaga allegedly ordered him stripped to the waist and scrubbed believing that his skin was painted. Japanese sources described Yasuke as “looking between the age of 24 or 25, black like an ox, healthy and good looking, and possessing the strength of 10 men. Nobunaga was further intrigued by the fact that Yasuke could speak Japanese (albeit not perfectly) and ordered Valignano to leave Yasuke in his care when the Jesuit prepared to leave again.
Yasuke became a permanent fixture in Nobunaga’s retinue, his size and strength acting as a deterrent to assassination not to mention a flavour of exoticism to accompany the warlord’s other Western possessions. Apparently Nobunaga became so fond of Yasuke that rumours abounded that the slave was going to be made a Daimyo (a Japanese land-owning lord). These rumours were proven wrong, however, Yasuke was given the honour of being made a member of the samurai class, a rare honour among foreigners. “

I wish nothing was off limits. And Id be a pale lil rapper who enjoys feeling the beats and free styling, etc. but I feel as if im culturally misappropriating for doing such. No other music would I be good at producing because of my fast talking speech. So this post gets to me. We all need to work on acceptance. Don’t label all whites or even all blacks in these generalization because all of my white friends are not racist (for a reason, I don’t accept racist or sexist or any-ist, friends), but we all need to give credit to the non-racist people out there black and white. And without giving an inch on each side, we’ll never be able to gain that mile-stone.
